Day 17: my worst habit

I LOVE projects, especially around my house. I decided to remodel my basement one day, and the next day, I took a hammer to the wall and put a whole right through it. I didn't waste any time getting the wall ripped down. I worked fast and furiously for weeks, so excited to have a new family room. I am super gung ho at the beginning of every single project I start, and then the bad habit kicks in and when it's "done enough", which is usually about 90% of the way, I'm done and stop. My basement is amazing. I love this new family room and it's beautiful. However, there are no light switch plates, or plug plates. There is no heater vent in the cealing, just a hole. There are no moldings around the doors, and a piece of baseboard is still not attached. It's just the way I roll. I don't know why, and actually I hate it. But as our marriage counselor pointed out to Casey when he complained of this same issue "well, she does about 70% more than most women, leaving you only 10% to do. You should be grateful". It's true. I do a lot of work on these projects and usually don't ask for help (the basement was not one of those projects, I needed a lot of help). I get a lot done, but everywhere around my entire house there are projects that are just about 90% done. Why I can't just finish a job I start I will never know. I think i just get so burned out from giving it so much that when it's done enough, I'm done enough too :)

Day 16: favorite food

A couple of weeks ago I went with my sisters and mom (yes, Angie is considered a sister) for a spa day. It was so nice to just spend the day with the people I enjoy most, even if it did end in tears for me,but it wasn't intentional, so it's fine. Anyway, after the spa, we went out to eat. Now I have to tell you that I don't love going out to eat because I never can find anything on any menu that I just love, or even care to pay for. Most of the time I leave a restaraunt feeling like I could have just made that for free at home, and it would have been better for sure, even though I'm just not that great a cook. I just hate paying for food when it isn't absolutely amazing. A weakness, I know! Anyway, it was announced that California Pizza Kitchen was our destination. I don't love that restaraunt, but I don't love any restaraunt, so it was fine. I ordered a very disappointed pasta dish (not surprised I hated it), and then ordered the above pictured dessert: chocolate souffle cake with a scoop of very high quality vanilla ice cream on a bed of vanilla bean cream. Can I just say, I love desserts as most of you know, and usually am very let down by the desserts also at restaraunts. NOT SO WITH THIS ONE! Oh my gosh. I wanted to take my clothes off and bathe in it. I think about that one dessert like a man thinks about sex, continually! I can't stop thinking about it and want it constantly. I want to eat it every day for the rest of my life. I want it so badly I'm ready to drive to Salt Lake to get it and nothing else. I'm ready to by dozens of them just so that I can eat them for the next month. I even tried to find a copycat recipe with NO success. It's no wonder they don't want to share this recipe; nobody would ever eat anything else again. It truly is to DIE FOR! And there are very fews foods I feel that passionate about. I'm pretty sure that you could smear this on dog poop and it would still be irresistable!

Day 15: Celebrity Crush

I LOVE Collin Firth. There are very few celebrities that would get me to run away with them. Collin is probably the only one. Rupert Everett is a close second, but since he's gay, I'm pretty sure he won't be asking me to run away with him! Every since I saw the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with collin firth, I was in love. That scene of him walking out of the lake will never be replaced. It's every woman's vision of perfect romance and I adore him. Okay, maybe it's Mr. Darcy that I am in love with, but since Collin plays him so perfectly, I am totally in love with him.

Day something: somewhere I want to go

This is an easy one: The amalfi Coast. Look at that image! Can you blame me? Who wouldn't want to go there. I do have a goal to go on a cruise along the Mediteranian coast for my 40th birthday. That's 2 years away and a lot of money to save. I don't know if I will make it, but I SURE hope that I do. It's somewhere I dream of daily.

day something: something I bought recently

I'm pretty sure that there is little interest in what I really bought most recently, which was 3 grocery carts full of groceries (it had literally been months since I went serious grocery shopping)! So I will put the last thing I bought for just me, which just happens to be one of my favorite movies, and it should come any day! :)

Pet Peeves

Where do I start? This is the hardest thing to narrow down cause quite frankly, I just have way too many! My biggest pet peeve is people that are always late. I will admit that DeLongs run on their own standard time, which is 15 minutes early for everything, which some will say is equally as rude, but by the time someone shows up late, I'm just about ready to blow a gasket!

Here's the rest of the list:
*bad artwork
*drivers that are morons
*going to the store to buy a particular item, or use a coupon, and they are out of stock
*asking "what is my grade Mrs Rasmussen" or "can I still turn this in"
*dirty carpet
*stinky dishclothes
*not being able to find something cause the girls have used it

There are so many others, but I just can't think of them. We all have them, and the challenge is trying to not let them drive us and others crazy.

What do I crave?

Craving is an interesting term. I think mostly we think of food or drinks when we are asked what we crave. Things that I crave are a little different because I don't have them any more and my body and soul literally "crave" to be loved and touched by a husband. Being single isn't bad at all, in fact, I quite like it. However, any single woman will tell you that as she crawls into bed each night, alone, the one thing that she craves more than anything is touch. There is nothing like it in the world that can replace it. So tonight when you climb into bed next to your spouse, remember how lucky you are to have them next to you and squeeze their hands and love them. You would crave it nightly if you were without it for more than a couple of weeks; I promise.

Some people may think that you can't "crave" sleep. I disagree. I crave it all day long and always look forward to climbing in my bed.

Cereal something I crave every single night. My favorite is Frosted Flakes, with Frosted Mini Wheats and Reese's as a close second. I would rather have cereal than ice cream.

Day 6: fun fact about me

The only fun fact about me that I could think of is that for my 21st birthday I took myself skydiving. I didn't do the wimpy tandum jump either. I hung off the strutt that goes from the body of the plane up to the wing and actually let go, plummeting to the earth. To this day I remember the feeling as the plane climbed higher and higher and then being told it was my turn. I went to the open door on the little plane, and grabbed on to that strutt and had to inch my way out, away from the plane. There I was, hanging on, outside of a perfectly good airplane and I let go, trusting that the rip cord would work and that I wouldn't die. Sure enough, the chute opened and the strings where twisted and wouldn't really untwist. For a minute I panicked and then did what we were trained to do and got it untwisted and the chute opened to it's full glory. There I was floating in the sky. I have never felt anything like it in the world. The immense beauty and peace that you feel that high up. Nobody around, nothing around, just sheer silence. Then you realize that you have to land in what looks like a pin point. You are supposed to land in this little area. It's taht or a building. I aimed for the landing point and hit it. Perfect landing. I was the only one in our group that didn't land miles away, but right where I was supposed to. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I would never do it again because I have kids and avoid all unnecessary risks. Which does bring me to a funny, not fun, fact about me. I'm am terrified of bears, bees, bridges, and waterfalls. I'm allergic to bees, I know that the second I get on a bridge there will be the earthquake from hell and I will plummet to the waters below to die a miserable death, and the thought of one of my children falling into the river below the waterfall is what actually terrifies me. And then the bears, well, there is no explanation for that. I just can't go backbacking anymore because I don't sleep. I just lay there sure that at any second a bear will rip through the tent and tear me apart. Fun no, funny yes :)

Day 5 (I think) favorite quote

This is a hard one for me because I don't ever remember quotes, ever. I wish that I did, but I think that I have so much on my mind all of the time that remembering quotes is really far down there. Heck, I can't even remember my visiting teachers name, and she comes every month! (Or my home teacher) So, I will tell you what my favorite quotes are that I have heard all of my life from my parents.

I SWORE that I would NEVER EVER EVER say either of these things because every time my parents said them I rolled my eyes and thought they were lame. Well, I do say them and mean them, with one new quote that I have added and say all of the time, and have no doubt that each time it rolls out of my mouth my children are all rolling their eyes :) What goes around certainly does comes around!

Every time we asked my mom what she wanted, be it a birthday, or just to cheer her up, she would say the exact same thing. Now it's what I find myself saying because it really is true:

"A clean house and happy kids"

Isn't that every mothers heaven? So yes, it rolls off my tongue every single time my kids ask what I want.

And every time all 8 of us would pile in our stationwagon with vinyl seats and no recognizable seatbelts, it was inevitable that whatever adventure we were heading out on always started with enthusiasm and zeal. By the end of whatever adventure (usually hiking), we were tired and dirty and inevitably fighting all the way home. Not only would my dad threaten to sell us to the indians, which he did actually pull over once and get out and start walking. Another story for another day, he would always say "hey guys, it's not how you start, but how you finish". Now I too find myself saying the same thing to my kids as they quarrel on the way home from some adventure.

And my own addition to the list of eye rolling quotes for my kids started with Uncle Kurt always telling his kids to be quiet and calm. I found myself always telling my kids as they walked out the door "quiet, calm, and kind, and always tell the truth". It has become our family motto. Ask any one of my kids and they will spit it right out, probably rolling their eyes the whole time. But I find that if you are quiet, calm, and kind, and always tell the truth, you will always get along with others, be happy, and enjoy life.

I LOVE to read. I have read so many books that I can't even begin to list them, or even my favorites. However, one book stands out that I loved. It's called A Town like Alice and I highly recommend it. My favorite genre is historical fiction and this one fits that category to a tee! I loved the book so much I got online and searched for the movie and bought it, which of course, was not nearly as good as the book. It's a great book.

Day 3 20 favorite things!!

mini-dark-chocolate-mousse.jpg

1. Dessert! I LOVE eating and making desserts. I would rather order dessert at a restaurant than dinner.

2. Dark Chocolate. My motto is that there isn't much money or dark chocolate can't fix

3. Shopping. But only if I have some money to spend, otherwise it's called torture, not shopping

4. Traveling. If I had more money, it would be done so much more

5. Interior Design. Anyone that knows me and has seen my home, needs no explanation

6. Jeans. I LOVE jeans

7. Reading. I won't even let myself read when my kids are around because I could be accused of neglect

8. Clean Sheets. Just love the crispness

9. Picnics in the park with the kids. I do this at least 2x/wk when it's warm enough

10. Plastic surgery. No explanation needed

11. Big, Beautiful, family SUV's. Weird I know, but I just love them

12. Sitting on the front porch watching the kids play

17. Katy

18. Jane

19. Sam

20. Me :)

And my least favorite things in the whole world are money and exercise!!!

Day 2 and Day 3 (yes, I am already a loser)

Yesterday was a busy day and I forgot that I am trying to be Emily my sister :) Dang it! So today I will do day 2 and day 3.

Day 2: Favorite Movie

This is a hard one because there are different categories, so I will do a few, one or two from different categories. I always say that a movie is a 2 hour vacation and should be enjoyed just as much as a good vacation. So I don't watch movies that are stressful. I didn't like Inception because I was stressed the WHOLE time. Can't stand that!

Drama:

I love inspiring movies. One of my favorites is Iron Will with Rudy as a close second.

Romance:

The BBC version of Pride and Prejudice of course with Emma as a very close second

Horror:

I HATE horror movies and haven't watched one in probably 20 years

Comedy:

These are my all time favorites so narrowing it down, not possible. However, I don't think I have ever laughed harder than when I saw and keep seeing Date Night. I think I woke up with abdominal pain from laughing so hard after watching it. And, I think that the people I went with (you know who you are) were actually laughing at me. I laugh really loud and I think it might be pretty embarrassing. Hilarious movie!

Classics:

Well, anyone that knows me knows that I consider Doris Day movies as classics and the best movies ever made. I own quite a few of them and LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I LOVE Doris and would be her if I could :) And some of you may consider Foul Play a classic, I sure do! And it's definitely one of my favs.

I'm such a copycat.

I love my sisters and they all have the best ideas, which I'm sure are also "borrowed" from others. I never really care who's idea it is, if I like it, I do it, usually with my own little flare. Anyway, Emily has been a lazy blogger, like I always have been (well, since I went back to work), and decided to do a post every day from the list below. I have to admit, when I read the list the day she posted it, I kind of thought it was corny. HOWEVER, and that's a big however, I loved reading her last two posts. It's funny that you can love someone so much, and think you know them SO well, and then you learn things about them that you just didn't realize. So, I too am going to do the post daily about the items on the below list. I figure if nobody reads it, at least it is written somewhere for my kids to someday read, as someday I will do a blog book. So here is the list, and I will do the first one today!

Day 1: favorite song
day 2: favorite movie
day 3: 20 favorite things
day 4: favorite book
day 5: favorite quote
day 6: fun fact about me
day 7: a piece of art
day 8: something I crave
day 9: pet peeves
day 10: a photo of me taken over ten years ago
day 11: a photo taken of me recently
day 12: something I bought recently
day 13: a talent of mine
day 14: some place I want to go
day 15: my celebrity crush
day 16: a favorite food
day 17: my worst habit
day 18: dream house
day 19: my future wedding
day 20: a hobby of mine
day 21: a favorite recipe
day 22: a favorite joke
day 23: a video
day 24: my day in great detail
day 25: a favorite photo
day 26: a funny (true) story
day 27: a child I love
day 28: a place I love
day 29: a person I love
day 30: hopes, dreams, and plans for the next 365 days

So here is my first one for day one: my favorite song. I really liked how Emily put it in categories, so I will once again follow suite (thanks em)

Show tunes:

Most of you that know me know I don't love show tunes, however there are a few that I enjoy, I just have to think about it for a minute. I love "any dream will do" from Joseph and the Technicolor dream coat. "on my own" from Les Miserable. And if I want to watch a musical, there is only about 2 or 3 that I will watch. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is my favorite, and I lOVE the music in that show!

Classic Rock:

This is a hard one. If I had to choose, it would be Hotel California by the Eagles, but I pretty much LOVE the Eagles all together.

Chill Music:

I have a "singing" folder that has all chill music that I LOVE to sing to. My favorite artist to chill to and sing to is Sarah McLaughlin.

80"s Music:

I just love George Micheal and pretty much will start dancing like a maniac and singing at the top of my lungs to any of his music.

Love songs:

Right now I don't have any happy favorite love songs since my love life sucks. But I LOVE the song Down by Jason Walker.

Religious:

I have an entire "sunday" folder, My favorite song in that folder is Count Your Blessings and School Thy Feelings by Dusten Gledhill (I love this whole CD)

Crazy dancing music: (I added this)

If I want to go crazy and dance around my house, I put on Beyonce "single ladies" or just about anything in my ABBA folder.
